Our Milestones
Since the 1980s, MRP and its affiliates have broadened operations and expanded their portfolio across the energy industry.
1981–PRESENT
More than four decades of energy-sector milestones.
1981
Established Petroleum Independent & Exploration (PIE)
PIE Corporation, a predecessor and affiliate of MRP, was established as an upstream exploration company.
1997
Founded InterOil (NYSE: IOC, 2010–2013)
InterOil Corporation became a vertically integrated oil and gas company focused primarily on Papua New Guinea, with a market capitalization exceeding US$5.2 billion.
2004
Completed Papua New Guinea’s first oil refinery
InterOil Corporation constructed the Napa Napa InterOil refinery, the first oil refinery in Papua New Guinea.
2006
Established an integrated downstream network
InterOil acquired Shell and BP retail and distribution assets in Papua New Guinea and integrated the downstream network with the refinery, achieving an 85% retail market share.
2009
Achieved world-record gas discoveries
InterOil discovered more than 12 Tcf, or over 1.6 billion barrels of oil equivalent, in Papua New Guinea, independently certified. The Antelope Gas Condensate well achieved a reported flow rate of 705 MMscf/d.
2013
Founded Asian Oil & Gas
MRP associates retired as Chief Executive Officer of InterOil Corp. and founded Asian Oil & Gas to expand the company’s energy interests across Asian markets.
2014
Upstream acquisition in the Permian Basin
PIE Corporation, an MRP affiliate, acquired approximately 8,500 acres in the Permian Basin, expanding in-field drilling operations.
2016
ExxonMobil acquired InterOil
ExxonMobil acquired InterOil Corporation for more than US$2.5 billion. InterOil’s assets included the Elk-Antelope gas fields and exploration licenses covering approximately 16,000 square kilometers in Papua New Guinea.
2016
Founded Mineral Resources Partners (MRP)
MRP was founded with the acquisition of Forestar Group mineral assets. The company now reports ownership of over 500,000 mineral acres and over 1,200,000 acres of carbon sequestration rights along the Gulf Coast.
2021
MRP Joined Empire Petroleum
MRP associates joined the board of directors of Empire Petroleum Corporation as Chairman.
2022
Empire Petroleum listed on the NYSE
Empire Petroleum Corporation was listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: EP).
2026
Three wells successfully drilled in South Louisiana
MRP-affiliated operations successfully drilled three wells in South Louisiana, with one well recompleted.
